CPV/CDV – Parvovirus and Distemper Combined Rapid Test
This 10-pack contains 10 rapid tests (2 × 5-pack) at a lower price per test – handy for multi-pet homes, breeders and shelters.
Parvovirus and distemper are the two most serious viral infections in puppies, and their early symptoms can be confused. This kit tests for both — but note that it requires two different samples: parvo is detected from stool, distemper from eye, nose or mouth discharge.
Accuracy – manufacturer validation
The manufacturer validated each parameter separately against PCR as the reference method:
Source: validation data from the manufacturer (Chongqing Safvet Biotech Co., Ltd.). Instructions for use (PDF)
When is the test recommended?
- A puppy suddenly deteriorates: diarrhoea, vomiting, lethargy
- Diarrhoea and respiratory signs at the same time — the typical situation in which both need to be ruled out
- Discharge from the eyes and nose, coughing, fever
- When taking in an unvaccinated dog or one with unknown vaccination status
- For animals from a shelter, from abroad or from an unknown breeder
How does it work?
-
1
Parvo (CPV): collect a fresh stool sample with the swab provided.
-
2
Distemper (CDV): swab the corner of the eye, the nose or the inside of the mouth with a second, clean swab. Never mix up the two.
-
3
Mix each sample in its own buffer, then add it to the matching cassette. Read the result after the time stated in the instructions, at room temperature.
Reading the result

Positive
Antigen of the relevant pathogen detected. Even a faint T line is positive. A positive result on either cassette requires immediate veterinary care — take the cassettes with you.

Negative
No antigen detected. Virus shedding is intermittent, so if symptoms persist, repeat the test within 2–3 days or contact your vet.

Invalid
No control line, so the result cannot be interpreted. Repeat the test with a new cassette.
Good to know
- The first signs of distemper are often respiratory, with serious neurological signs only appearing later. That is why it pays to test early.
- For a few days after a booster vaccination, the vaccine virus may also be detectable. If your dog was vaccinated recently, tell your vet.
- If only parvo is suspected, the CPV Ag test on its own is sufficient.
